While I love dissecting and trying the “It” pieces of the season, I’m a simple girl at heart and thoroughly believe in the importance of a capsule wardrobe. That’s why I tapped personal stylist Samantha Dawn to clue me in on the five timeless staples she recommends for summer.

I’m the proud owner of several silk camisoles, but Dawn has officially sold me on the skirt equivalent of this style. “Having a silk or satin skirt adds a fun texture and elevation into your outfit,” said the expert. “She’s romantic, elegant, and even flirty. If you want an extra oomph, grab one with a little slit.” Try out the style for yourself by grabbing this blush pink option, which will look chic with pointed kitten heels or ballet flats.

It wouldn’t be a summer wardrobe without a few sundresses in the mix. As Dawn pointed out, the breezy classic “only takes 5 seconds to put on,” making for easy, one-and-done styling. White tees are one of my most-worn items, so I’m already sold on Dawn’s next recommendation. “A fitted basic white T-shirt is easy to pair with any bottom,” said the stylist. “Just make sure to add some jewelry to add more dimension into your outfit,” she noted. With that in mind, I’m styling this cropped tee with flowy pants and a dainty necklace.

If you’re aiming for a dressier look, though, take the expert’s advice: “I’d go for denim shorts that don't have distressing for even more elevation,” the stylist said.
