NH House votes to table doctor assisted suicide bill

New Hampshire state representatives narrowly voted Thursday to table a controversial bill that would legalize doctor-assisted suicide, which advocates call "medical aid in dying."

The bill would allow doctors to prescribe a lethal medication to a terminally ill adult patient of sound mind with fewer than six months to live. The patient would self-administer the medication.

The House voted 183-182, putting it on hold for now.

A similar bill passed the House last year, but stalled in the Senate.
